Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) both involve symptoms that occur before a menstrual cycle begins, but PMDD is more severe.

PMDD symptoms may include:

- Intense irritability or anger
- Anxiety
- Significant mood changes
